The new season of Twilight Tours continues at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 1301 Texas Boulevard, on Saturday, May 7 beginning at 7 p.m.

Join the Texarkana Museums System for a guided living history tour of one of Texarkana’s oldest cemeteries. Costumed interpreters will bring Texarkana’s past to life. There are over 25 cemeteries located within the city limits of Texarkana with burials dating back to the 1874, Sacred Heart Cemetery is one of the most historic sites in the city.

“The first burial here took place in 1874, just a few weeks after the city was established,” says TMS Curator Jamie Simmons.

The land was donated by Robert Rodgers, the man who created State Line Avenue. Sadly, it was his own daughter who was the first buried here. Guests will meet Mrs. Frances Rodgers, portrayed by Bobbye Henry; Sister Justine, portrayed by Ruby Hildreth, who founded Saint Agnes Academy; and several other town founders and early settlers who arrived before 1880.

LOOK: What 25 Historic Battlefields Look Like Today

The following is an examination of what became of the sites where America waged its most important and often most brutal campaigns of war. Using a variety of sources, Stacker selected 25 historically significant battlefields in American history. For each one, Stacker investigated what happened there when the battles raged as well as what became of those hallowed grounds when the fighting stopped.

These are the battlefields that defined the United States military’s journey from upstart Colonial rebels to an invincible global war machine.
