A&M Texarkana to Host Free Disaster Preparedness Course
Being prepared for the unexpected can be critical in the case of an emergency situation.
The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Office of Extended Education and Community Development will host a free disaster preparedness course presented by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Jan. 9-10 on the A&M-Texarkana campus.
Disaster Preparedness for Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations within the Community Infrastructure will bring planning and management stakeholders from the hospital and healthcare sector together with supporting and impacted community leaders to ensure the resiliency of healthcare infrastructure services in the event of a high-consequence event.
The course is designed for those involved in emergency services, emergency management, public works management, utility management, and healthcare and hospital management, as well as power providers, water authorities, medical staff, regulatory personnel and health department personnel.
Topics will include threats to the community, fundamentals of preparedness, preparing the response, preparing the recovery and assessing preparedness.
“We are thrilled to bring the TEEX emergency management instructional team to campus for a two-day disaster preparedness workshop,” said Shelley Caraway, executive director of Extended Education and Community Development at A&M-Texarkana. “I want to encourage the area healthcare community, as well as supporting community leaders and organizations, to be a part of this exciting opportunity.”
Recommended prerequisite courses include IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800, which can be completed online.
Participants who complete this course will receive a course certificate of completion.
