Texarkana Regional Airport to Receive Additional $4.2 Million For Completion

As work continues on the new terminal of the Texarkana Regional Airport more national funding has been awarded to our airport and many others across the county.

The new funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration to Texarkana for $4,275,000 which is on top of the $5 million that was given last year to the airport expansion.

What The Airport's The New Funds Go Towards?

According to the faa.gov the money will go towards:

the final phase of construction for the new terminal building. The funding will be used to complete the exterior site work, which specifically includes accessible sidewalks, security fencing, concrete driveways and impact-rated bollards.

Texarkana Regional Airport Executive Director Paul MehrLich told the Texarkana Gazette; 

 "This funding allowed the airport to get 10 years ahead on projects from where we would have been."

The new terminal will be two stories and the plan is to have a small convenience store with magazines and essentials or sale, plus a coffee shop or small cafe for passengers to enjoy once they have passed through security.

The new terminal is expected to be finished by the summer of 2024.

Another Arkansas airport benefited from these funds. The Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in Little Rock also received an extra $8 million in funds in the second of four phases for the new 70,000-square-foot central utility plant.
