Texarkana School Supply Drive to Give Away 500 Free Backpacks This Saturday (Aug. 8)

As students prepare to head back to the classroom, there is a great event on Saturday to help make sure hundreds of children have the supplies they need for a successful school year.

A School Supply Drive will be held Saturday, August 8, from 9 AM to 2 PM at 3600 Washington Street in Texarkana, Arkansas. The event will continue while supplies last.

Helping Local Students Start the School Year Right

A total of 500 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to area students.

The backpacks are being provided by East Street Pawn & Jewelry, while the Women of Steel, USW Local 752L, donated the school supplies needed to fill all 500 backpacks.  RRCU also made a generous donation in support of the event.

Students must be present to receive a backpack and must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Coming Together in Texarkana

In addition to picking up school supplies, there will be complimentary chips and drinks for everyone during the event.

The school supply drive is another example of the community coming together to help local students begin the new school year with the tools they need to succeed. Be sure to get there early. The backpacks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
