Texarkana Arkansas Police have alerted us to a new scam that you should know about, especially if you're a business owner here in Texarkana.

According to the report on the Texarkana Arkansas Police Facebook page, a woman identifying herself as Kathleen Miller Mitchell, has been introducing herself as an Official with an event called The 3rd Annual Arts and Craft Show. The event is supposed to take place on April 27th and 28th, 2024 at the Texarkana Arkansas Convention Center. Unfortunately, none of that is true.

TAPD explains:

Kathleen Miller Mitchell has been acting as a representative for an Arts and Craft event. Mitchell is reaching out to individuals via Facebook and acting as though this is a confirmed event. Mitchell is requesting individuals to send deposits to a PayPal account. Please do not respond to this….THIS IS A SCAM!

Thoughts:

It's very unfortunate that people are constantly trying to scam you out of your hard-earned money but they are, and the more you know, the better you can protect yourself from it.

  • If you are approached by anyone, especially online (which should be your first red flag), claiming to represent a group or organization, event or charity, but they need you to invest or give money "right now" to take advantage of this opportunity? Don't walk away, run.
  • If anyone acts offended that you would want to check them out first, don't walk, run.
  • If you feel uncomfortable in any way with a deal being offered, don't walk, run.

That tiny voice in your head warning you something isn't right, is usually correct, listen to it.

If you find yourself being scammed let the police know immediately, with a little luck, maybe they can catch some of these people... and I use the term "people" very loosely.
