Deceased Bowie County Escapee Identified After Next Of Kin Notice
Arkansas State Police released the name of the Bowie County prison escapee who was captured yesterday and was shot during an alleged altercation between the prisoner and the arresting Texarkana Arkansas police officer.
The escapee has been identified as Michael D. Olson, 30, or Texarkana, Texas. Notification of next of kin was made this morning. Olson is the Bowie County, Texas escapee who was shot by a Texarkana, Arkansas police officer yesterday [Monday, March 21st] and died at the scene after a reported struggle for the officer's gun.
The incident that led up to the shooting involved two Texarkana Arkansas police officers. Officials of the local police department have requested the Arkansas State Police to investigate the use of deadly force by one of the officers.
From the initial report released by the Arkansas State Police:
About 1 PM today (Monday, March 21), one of the Texarkana police officers located the escapees outside 210 East Street. Subsequently, both officers approached the pair in an attempt to apprehend the escapees. While one officer was taking an escapee into custody, the second officer was met with resistance by the other inmate who began to fight with the officer and attempted to gain control of the second officer’s gun. During the struggle the gun was fired, causing the first officer to shoot the inmate fighting with the second officer.
The deceased inmate's body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to confirm the cause and manner of death.
The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the State Police and will be submitted to the Miller County prosecuting attorney to determine if deadly force by a law enforcement officer was justified in this case.

A search is currently underway for two men who escaped early this morning, Michael Olson, and Wayde Land. The latest report says these two escaped from the Bowie County Jail Annex sometime after 1 AM this morning.
According to the Texarkana Texas Police Facebook Page;
Michael Olson, 30, was being held on Felony Assault and a probation violation charge.
Wayde Land, 38, was jailed on charges of Burglary of a Building and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
