A Day for Winners at Pleasant Grove
There were winners everywhere inside the competition gym at PG, including those who serve our country in the National Guard and the football players who made us so proud.
Max Preps, & The National Guard honored the Pleasant Grove state football champions, presenting them a trophy as part of the Tour of Champions. PG recognized as one of the Top 50 high school football teams in the country for 2017.
The Hawks of course finished the season a perfect 16-0 to win the Texas High School Class 4A Division II State Championship. Beating the two time defending state champions West Orange Stark 41-21 in the championship game at AT&T Cowboys Stadium in Arlington in December. That broke West Orange's 40 game winning streak.
Besides being honored with the Tour of Champions Trophy, the Hawks were also saluted by U.S. Congressman John Ratcliffe. A representative of the House member was on hand and gave the team a U.S. Flag that had flown over the nation's Capitol.
Also Texarkana, Texas Mayor Bob Bruggeman presented PG Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Josh Gibson with a city pin that is the same as those worn by the Mayor and City Council Members. Also, receiving the pins were State Championship Offensive MVP T.J. Cole and Defensive MVP Caleb Porchia.
Football players then took the time to autograph footballs, with the Hawks parents and fans who packed the gym to witness the honor.
We once again would like to take time to congratulate Coach Gibson, his staff, and players for an outstanding accomplishment and making us all so proud, both on and off the field.
