On March 12 we will spring forward one hour to Daylight Saving Time but will this be the last time for Arkansas?  We were hearing a lot about this subject late last year about staying in Daylight Savings Time permanently this year. Then crickets...

Lately, it's been kind of quiet. But here are some things that I did find out.

Nationally back in March of last year, the US Senate voted unanimously for the Sunshine Protection Act where we would stay in Daylight Saving Time year-round. But you know how our government works and the bill has stalled in the US House.

But Wait There is Still a Chance...

According to TheHill.com just last week on Thursday, March 2, 2023;

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who introduced the Sunshine Protection Act last year, filed a bill on Wednesday that would make daylight saving time permanent. So far, the bill, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2023, has bipartisan support in the Senate, and has been referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

As for the State of Arkansas, back in December Arkansas State Representative Johnny Rye of Trumann, AR, proposed the state go ahead and make Daylight Savings Time permanent even if the US doesn't go for it. Then all of a sudden in January the proposed bill was withdrawn for further study.

So, as it stands for right now we do go to Daylight Saving Time Sunday, March 12 and we will go back to Standard Time in the fall. But that still could change before we fall back to Standard Time in November.

On a funny note, the state of Texas was looking into passing a bill to go to Daylight Saving Time permanently back in 2014 and again a few years later. It didn't pass because the was a concern about a big conflict that would happen if Texas stayed in Daylight Savings Time and the rest of the country did not. The conflict was Sunday church time might conflict with Dallas Cowboys games. It's all about priorities!
