Redwater Independent School District (RISD) is growing and people are noticing. RISD has taken top regional honors as two teachers have been named Teachers of the Year.

Winning the honors in the Region VIII Education Service Center, Courtney Beck has been named Regional Elementary Teacher of the Year and
Tanya Terry has been named the Regional Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Both women will now go on to a group of 40 regional teachers of the year and will be considered for one of six state finalists.

Courtney Beck has been teaching for close to 18 years and will begin her eighth year teaching at Redwater Elementary School and a graduate of Texas A&M University – Texarkana with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Beck said in a press release;

I realize that students come to school with different backgrounds, different experiences and different needs. My hope is to make each student feel that they belong, they matter and they can do anything they set their minds to.

Tanya Terry has been teaching for 17 years and is starting her sixth year at
Redwater High School. She has an Associate Degree in Secondary Education from Texarkana College and a Bachelor's plus a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Terry said in the press release;

I believe that every child has the ability to learn and that every educator’s responsibility
is to meet a child where he or she is at the moment. My philosophy in the classroom is no failures. If a child fails, I believe that I have failed the child.

A big congratulations to both these women for doing an outstanding job and being recognized for it.
