The Texas High Tigers begin the 2016 high school baseball season with a roster full of experienced players.

The Tigers have eight returning starters from last year's team. Those players include: Kyle Choate, Kyrian Williams, JT Morgan, Colby Adkins, Colton Russell, Nick Kelly, Zack Phillips, and Kip Williams.

Overall, the roster is made up of upper classmen with 12 seniors and six juniors. And joining them will be one sophomore and one freshman.

Speaking of experience, this is Tiger head coach John McClure's 12th year at Texas High and his 5th season as the leader of the baseball program. The Tigers went 15-10 last year finishing 3rd in district, made it to the playoffs but were eliminated by Lufkin.

Coach McClure says this year's squad features, "experienced hard-working players who have worked through adversity together."

McClure will be handing the baseball to top pitchers Zack Phillips and Kip Williams, with other arms set to give him some innings as well. At the plate, the Tigers are looking for big things from: Kyrian Williams, J.T. Morgan, Colby Atkins, Trevor Danley, Kip Williams, and Zack Phillips.

McClure looks for the district to be quite tough again this year. Hallsville and Sulphur Springs were two of the final four teams in their region last year, with Hallsville making it to regional finals. The Tigers also have lined up a formidable non-district schedule which includes the likes of Tyler Lee, Denton, McKinney,Rowlett, Frisco Liberty, and more.

The Tigers are also looking forward to hosting the Texas High Challenge March 9-12 with teams from both Texas and Arkansas including, Greenwood, Russellville, El Dorado, Sheridan, Sulphur Springs, and Arkansas High.

Aiding Coach McClure on varsity will be assistant coaches, Scott Mennie and Vince Minter .

Look for very good things from Texas High this spring, and we hope experience, hard work, and talent will lead them well into the playoffs.
