Pedestrian Killed in Accident in Texarkana
The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a crash where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Mall Drive late Tuesday.
Authorities have identified the victim as 88 year old Jewel Maxwell Jr. of the Texas side. Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Mall Drive (in front of Olive Garden) to the report of a pedestrian having been hit by a vehicle at approximately 10:00 last night.
The traffic investigators have determined that Maxwell was picking up cans in the area and was attempting to walk south across the roadway toward Central Mall. He was struck by an eastbound van. The driver told investigators that he didn’t see Maxwell until it was too late.
Maxwell was transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Officers were able to identify Maxwell after family members reported him as missing from his Texarkana home shortly after the crash.
The crash continues to be investigated at this time.
