Local Scout Leaders Looking to Make Improvements at Camp Pioneer

Local Scout Leaders in Texarkana are looking to make some improvements at an area Boy Scout camp that is extremely important to area Scouts.

The Caddo Area Council Board of Directors, by a vote of thirty-seven to zero, unanimously approved a recommendation to suspend 2018 Boy
Scout Resident Camp. Scout Leaders say this one-year hiatus will allow the council time to raise additional capital funds to make improvements at Camp Pioneer.

The council will ask the local community to participate in the fundraising campaign as they strive to bring a higher quality and more memorable Scouting experience to their members. In the interim, the council will develop and implement a year-round program at Camp Pioneer that will include new events and activities for area Scouts.

In addition, they are developing a long term strategic plan for the operation of their two
camp properties: Camp Pioneer in Western Arkansas, and Camp Preston Hunt near Texarkana. This plan will include the long-term maintenance and development of the two facilities.

Camp Pioneer and Camp Preston Hunt both offer unique rustic characteristics and natural resources that provide an excellent backdrop for Scouting.
