With the threat of winter weather on the way this weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crews are getting a head start on road safety. Beginning Wednesday, January 21, crews across the nine-county Atlanta District will begin applying brine to major roadways and bridges.

What is Brine and How Does it Help Roads During Winter Weather?

Brine is a mixture of salt and water and it plays a big role when temperatures drop. When applied before winter weather, it helps keep ice and snow from sticking to the pavement. This makes the roads safer for drivers if and when weather conditions worsen.
