The National Insurance Crime Bureau publishes an annual report on the most stolen vehicles in the United States, but we're taking it one step further, this is the list of the Top 10 most stolen vehicles in the Great State of Arkansas. Is your car, truck, or SUV on the list? Are there any EVs on the list? Do they steal new cars more often, or older vehicles? Let's find out.

The NICB states that "vehicle theft is a multi-billion-dollar industry in the US" and hundreds of thousands of cars, trucks, and SUVs are stolen every year.

Would it shock you to learn that the most stolen vehicle in the United States is a pickup truck? Shock or no, that's the truth. The surprising thing to me was the year model on these thefts, they're stealing 2004 models.

According to the NICB report the 2004 Chevrolet Full-Size Pickup is the most stolen vehicle across the country with 49,903 thefts in the report.

Ford pickup owners, don't get cocky, your truck is right behind them with the Full-Size 2006 Ford Pickup being stolen 48,175 times.

Other notables from this report:

  • The Hyundai Sonata and Elantra both made the National Top 10 list for the first time.
  • If reported stolen within 24 hours, passenger vehicles had a 34% same-day recovery rate.

One thing I did not realize that is certainly good news is according to this report;

"more than 85 percent of passenger vehicles reported stolen in 2022 were subsequently recovered by law enforcement or other means"

What To Do?

  1. Report the vehicle stolen to the police immediately. Remember, 34% are recovered in less than 24 hours if reported within 24 hours of the theft.
  2. Report the vehicle stolen to your insurance company. Police first, then the insurance company. Your insurer may require a police report to honor your claim.
  3. Have your vehicle information ready. Both the police and your insurer are going to want vehicle information. Make sure you have this saved somewhere, other than your vehicle. VIN, make, model, color, license plate number, and insurance policy number.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau report uses the latest vehicle theft figures from 2022.
