Texas Hunting and Fishing Licenses Go on Sale Aug. 15
With fall just around the corner, Texas hunters and anglers can get ready for the 2026-27 season when new hunting and fishing licenses go on sale this Saturday, Aug. 15.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says most current-year hunting and fishing licenses expire at the end of August.
More than 3 million hunting and fishing licenses are purchased in Texas each year. Those sales help pay for conservation and outdoor recreation projects, including fish stocking, wildlife management, habitat restoration, public hunting lands, and Texas Game Warden enforcement.
Where to Buy a License
Licenses can be purchased online through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, at license retailers across Texas, or at TPWD offices. Online purchases include a $5 administrative fee.
TPWD has also updated its identity verification requirements for license purchases. The new rules are designed to help prevent residency fraud.
Hunters and anglers can choose between paper and digital licenses. Digital licenses are available through online purchases and can be accessed through the Texas Hunt & Fish and Outdoor Annual mobile apps.
Check the Rules Before You Head Out
The 2026-27 hunting and fishing regulations are available through OutdoorAnnual.com and the free Outdoor Annual app. The app can be used without an internet connection, which can be especially helpful in remote areas.
The Texas Hunt & Fish app also provides digital tagging, harvest reporting and information about public hunting lands.
Hunters can access more than 1 million acres of public land with an annual public hunting permit.
Hunters Can Enter Lifetime License Drawing
Texas residents can also enter the Lifetime License Drawing when purchasing a license. Three winners will receive a Lifetime Super Combo License. Entries are $5, with the first drawing deadline set for Sept. 30.

License buyers can also make optional donations to programs including Hunters for the Hungry, the Fund for Veterans Assistance and Operation Game Thief.
