Texas A&M – Texarkana to Break Ground on New Academic Building
Texas A&M University-Texarkana is gearing up for the construction of a new academic facility worth $45 million. This new building will accommodate the university's expanding business, engineering, and technology programs. Funding for the project was secured through the Texas Legislature during the 87th Legislative session in 2021.
The new facility is over 50,000 square feet and three stories high. The building will be located on the southwest side of the university campus. It will be linked to the existing Science and Technology Building through walkways on the second and third floors.
There is a growing demand for degrees in business and technology-oriented disciplines, the facility will serve as the home for the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment. Plus it will feature laboratories for mechanical engineering and design, alongside a spacious 225-seat lecture hall/auditorium. There will also be upgrades to the existing spaces within the current Science and Technology Building
A special acknowledgment of gratude to Rep. Gary VanDeaver and Sen. Bryan Hughes for championing the funding, A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander underscored the pivotal role played by Chancellor Sharp and the A&M System Board of Regents in realizing this transformative facility. Dr. Alexander said in a press release
Their unwavering support mirrors the ascendancy, growth, and momentum of this esteemed institution.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for May 30, 2024, with construction on the project slated to begin in June. If you would like more information about the new Business, Engineering, and Technology Building you can email Aaron Harding at aharding@tamut.edu.
