A Lasting Legacy: A&M–Texarkana Dedicates Patsy and Don Morriss Walking Trail
Texas A&M University–Texarkana celebrated something special on campus last week. There was a special ceremony as they announced the name of the Patsy and Don Morriss Walking Trail.

The walking trail is paved and just under a mile as an .84-mile loop that winds through a grove of pine trees and circles the campus lake. This is a favorite trail for students, professors, staff, and the community. The official dedication took place on Friday, November 21, during a ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

Patsy and Don Morriss have a long history with the university and have been longtime champions of A&M–Texarkana and the Texarkana community. Don previously served on the Texas A&M University–Texarkana Foundation Board, and Patsy currently serves on the Women for A&M–Texarkana board, where she is also a past president.
Their service spans over several local boards and councils, and both are graduates of Leadership Texarkana. The pair has been recognized for their dedication with Don receiving the 1995 C.E. Palmer Award, and both were honored with the Idalee Hawkins Leader of the Year Award, with Patsy receiving the recognition in 2010 and Don in 2025.
So it is only fitting for a beautiful walking trail to be named in their honor too.
Texas A&M University-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander said it best in a press release,
We are deeply honored to celebrate Patsy and Don Morriss for their sustained commitment to A&M-Texarkana in this unique manner. They possess a passion for the University, the community, and physical fitness. We thank them for their gracious gift.
