University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Host Cybersecurity Camp
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT), in partnership with the Southwest Arkansas Education Cooperative (SWAEC), will host a Cybersecurity Exploration Camp June 1–5 on the UAHT Texarkana campus.
Hands-On Cybersecurity Learning
The camp will run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to 30 students entering grades 7–11. The program introduces students to cybersecurity through hands-on, inquiry-based activities that build a strong security mindset. Female students are strongly encouraged to apply to help address the gender gap in the cybersecurity workforce.
Topics and Camp Activities
Students will explore key concepts such as cryptography, digital forensics, Internet of Things (IoT) security, and adversarial thinking. Instruction is based on the TeachCyber.org curriculum and uses cloud-based labs from the UALR Cyber Arena. Activities include team challenges, simulations, and ethical discussions, with skill levels tailored to each student’s experience.
College and Career Connections
Participants will learn about UAHT’s Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity, dual-credit opportunities, and industry certifications like CompTIA Security+ and Network+. Guest speakers from regional industries will highlight high-demand cybersecurity careers, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
