The Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties is proud to announce they have a new leader. Jacklyn Hudson Whitington took the helm as the new Executive Director on May 27.

The former Executive Director, Kristiana Rivas, is now the director of the EagleLEAD Presidential Scholars Program at Texas A&M University -Texarkana.

Whitington has been with the Literacy Council as the Academic Coordinator and was also a second-grade teacher at Morriss Elementary, so the promotion was a natural progression and fit. She also holds an associate degree from Texarkana College and a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.

The Literacy Council helps people in our community with reading and writing skills. It also teaches life skills with a variety of functional literacy programs.

Kirstna Rivas said in a press release,

I am thrilled to see Jacklyn step into this role. Her passion for literacy and her dedication to our community are unmatched. I’m confident she’ll lead the Council with vision and heart.
