Anglers rejoice! For the first time in nearly 30 years, a new man-made lake is now open about an hour northeast of the DFW Metroplex, Bois D'Arc Lake near the city of Bonham.

If you love to fish it's worth the drive to Bois D'Arc Lake because the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has been stocking the lake with fish before it even opened.

Some 300,000 Lonestar Bass are in the lake along with Florida strain Sharelunker largemouth, crappie, sunfish, and catfish among the stocked species according to the TPWD Facebook page.

The design of Bois D'Arc Lake goes far back as the 1980s, after decades of buying property, and waiting on permits, construction, and rainwater to fill up the lake the wait was certainly worth it, according to several anglers who have already dropped their lure and bait in the lake.

Bois D' Arc Lake is surrounded by 17,000 acres of land and almost 12,000 acres of wetland. The 1.6 billion dollar project was built as a reservoir and is owned and managed by the North Texas Municipal Water District. Hunting and fishing are a must at this new lake.
