I Drive Arkansas, Can Help You if Your Traveling for the Holidays
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) reminds drivers to “know before you go” and visit the IDriveArkansas website before traveling this Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.
Extensive highway improvements continue in the state. With those improvements come work zones. To aid in your holiday travel, ARDOT has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible. Still, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to increased traffic volume.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) predicts that more than 107.3 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home. This will be the highest year-end travel volume on record and a 3.1% increase compared to last year. The Christmas & New Year’s holiday travel period is defined as Friday, December 22 through Tuesday, January 2.
To help motorists find ways around accidents and work zone backups on Interstates, ARDOT has an Alternate Routes feature on the IDriveArkansas website. It displays linkages between the Interstate corridors and secondary routes that motorists may consider when travel is delayed.
Below is a list of closures on Arkansas’ Primary Highway Network during the holiday weekend. Motorists are encouraged to look at the website to find closures that are on secondary and tertiary routes.
Route | County | City | Mile Marker | Distance | One Lane Closed | Time |
I-440 | Pulaski | Little Rock | 6-11 | 5 miles | Both Directions | 24 hours |
Hwy 67 | Randolph | Pocahontas | 7-8 | 1 mile | Both Northbound | 24 hours |
Here's hoping you have safe and happy travels no matter where you are headed this Christmas and New Years.
