Here’s When & Where To See Stunning Fall Colors in Arkansas

Fall is in the air and soon the trees will be changing colors. There are some fantastic areas in Arkansas to take a day trip and see the beautiful colors of autumn.

Some reports are saying foliage might be turning a little earlier this year but still to be on the safe side the best bet is to wait until mid to late October and early November for the big show of color depending on where you go in Arkansas.

Be sure to sign up for weekly email updates from the Arkansas Tourism Department. They'll give you a quick rundown of where the color changes are taking place. Then just pack a lunch, pile in the car with family or friends and head out on the open road.

In mid to late October take a weekend and head north up into Arkansas. Take a drive up into the Ozark mountains on Hwy 23 and drive the Pig Trail Scenic Byway. It starts at Ozark, Arkansas, and runs about 49 miles up to Huntsville Arkansas.

Then there is the famous Scenic 7 Byway. This one is easy from our area because it starts in the southern part of the state but it runs far north and it's pretty central to the state. Start at Arkadelphia then just head north as far as you want. This one will take you to Hot Springs, Russellville, and all the way up to Lead Hill, Arkansas. Of course the further south you are the later in the season to start seeing colors in Arkadelphia.

Another great road to take is the Talimena National Scenic Byway. This 54-mile route goes in between Mena and runs into Talimena Oklahoma. This road will take you through Ouachita National Forest. The best time to drive this one is in mid to late October.
