Remember 30 years ago when the community got together in front of the Post Office on State Line for "Hands Across America?"  If you took part in that, you know how amazing it was to be a part of something special. How would you like to a part of Texarkana history for something else very special downtown on Tuesday, Oct. 25. 2016 at 10AM?

We're hoping to take the largest photo ever at photographer's island in two states at once. Please pass the word along and bring everyone you know to help make this happen. It's all due to a celebration of the Texarkana Arts & Historic District being named an official Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts in its September 7, 2016 public hearing. Texarkana was one of seven cities to receive this designation in 2016, including Waco, Arlington, Amarillo, Rockport, Plano and Salado.

This designation required an arduous application process that was completed by the steering committee of the Texarkana Arts & Historic District, which includes the following organizations: The Cities of Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, Arkansas, the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Texarkana, the Texarkana Museum Systems, the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, and the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra.

Come help celebrate and bring a friend. To commemorate and mark the event, the Texarkana Arts and Historic District, Texas Cultural District Designation by the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the city hopes to take the largest photo in two states.

Lisa Thompson is the Public Information Officer for the City of Texarkana, Texas. She said everyone is working together to bring this event to fruition.

“All the organizations at the bottom (of the photo) are collaborating in the form of the Arts & Historic District Committee,” she said.
