Arkansas’ Hidden Gem is a Tropical Paradise With White Sand
Now that the weather is heating up and the Memorial holiday weekend is just 3 weeks away it's time for lake time or tropical beach time.
Sand Island on Norfork Lake
In case you haven't heard did you know there is a hidden oasis with a tropical setting, clear water, and white sand right here in Arkansas?
As long as you have a boat or some type of watercraft you can reach Sand Island which has people traveling from all over the country each year. It's one of several beaches located in Norfork Lake tucked away between the scenic beauty of the Ozark mountain region.
If you don't have a boat to get to the island man, there are plenty of places for boat rentals and you can even rent a houseboat great for families, friends, or larger groups.
What makes Sand Island so unique is that it is more secluded that some of the other beaches in the area. The lake is so clear that it projects a blue-greenish hue that makes one feel as though they are in a tropical paradise.
The white sand that surrounds the island is perfect for sunbathing or sinking your toes in the sand while you sip on a cool one.
Over the years, Sand Island has come to be known as the Caribbean of the South, according to their website.
Sure, you could spend hundreds of dollars going somewhere else this summer but Sand Island is just a little over a 5-hour drive away from Texarkana. And if you feel like staying overnight there are several cabin rentals at nearby Hand Cove Resort.
There are also campsites, picnic areas, and great fishing holes on Norfork Lake which has 550 miles of shoreline. Because the lake is so clear and clean it makes for a great place for scuba diving as well.
Underneath Lake Norfork
When the dam was built in this area in the early 1940s, two towns were completely sunk leaving buildings, ruins, and even a cemetery underneath the lake. Just a little eerie about the cemetery, don't you think?
So, if you are looking to get away for some fun this upcoming Memorial holiday weekend or during the summer Sand Island on Norfork Lake in Arkansas is the best place to do that and you won't break the bank to get there.
