We love our hairstylists. They can make us look 10 years younger and 10 pounds lighter. There is a lot of trust that goes into your relationship with your hairstylist. So when you find the one that is perfect for you it's a good idea to treat them right and with respect.

We talked with a few hairstylists in Texarkana at different salons and asked, What advice or golden rule they would like their clients or potential clients to know? It might be a big eye-opener for some, but definitely some great advice too. If you go by these golden rules, you are sure to have the best experience at a salon and your hairstylist will appreciate you even more! So listen up!

  • Stephanie C. said When you're changing your hair color or you are doing a big style change or haircut change. Be sure to wear makeup. (We all look and feel better with a little bit of makeup on and it can help you adjust to your new look easier.)

  • Another stylist said, Come in with clean hair if you can. The "Dirty Hair Takes Color Better" is a myth.

  • Close your eyes during your shampoo. Just relax and enjoy it.

  • M. Payne said Products do matter. If your stylist suggests a product it's because it will help repair or keep your hair type healthy. Your stylist isn't suggesting products just to sell it and make extra money.

  • Hairstylists want you to put your phone away.  Your head needs to be upright and level during your cut and color. Wait until there is a break in your treatment to get your phone out.

  •  Brandy D told us to be realistic on how light your hair can go in just one sitting. It will take a few visits if you are going from a dark hair color to a much lighter one.

  • Several hairstylists say,  if you are getting a coloring please wear an old t-shirt. Accidents can happen. Please don't come in wearing your favorite or most expensive shirt.

  • Don't expect a rush job if you are strapped for time. The treatments you are getting take time. Even if it's a simple haircut your stylist does not need to be stressed and rushed because of your lack of time management. Talk with your stylist before your appointment to find out how long your treatment will take.

  • If you are happy with your service, a tip is always welcome. But one hairstylist said that some hairstylists now build a tip into their pricing. You can always ask to be on the safe side.

  • Ashley S spoke of people that are late or are a no-show. Be sure to still pay for the service and rebook the appointment at your stylists' convenience. They count on that money coming in for bills. Be courteous just as you would for a doctor's appointment and try to not cancel last minute.
